In finance and economics, discounting is the process of finding the present value of an amount of cash at some future date, and along with compounding cash forms the basis of time value of money calculations. The discounted value of a cash flow is determined by reducing its value by the appropriate discount rate for each unit of time between the time when the cashflow is to be valued to the time of the cash flow. Most often the discount rate is expressed as an annual rate. To calculate the net present value of a single cash flow, it is divided by one plus the interest rate for each period of time that will pass. This is expressed mathematically as raising the divisor to the power of the number of units of time. As an example, suppose an individual wants to find the net present value of $100 that will be received in five years time. There is a question of how much is it worth presently, and what amount of money, if one lets it grow at the discount rate, would equal $100 in five years. Let one assume a 12% per year discount rate. NPV = 100 dollars divided by 1 plus 12% (0.12) divided by 1 plus 12% (0.12), etc. Since 1.125 is about 1.762, the net present value is about $56.74. So, an economy where money loses 12% of its value/purchasing power every year, how will it "feel" like having 100 $ in five years? Well, it will "feel" like having $56.74 now. So the interest rate you be charged at the bank will be very high to compensate for this fact. The following link has a tutorial on discount mathematics: - Tutorial on discount mathematics

2) "Sunglasses" -- As to discount sunglasses sun·glass Pronunciation: 's&n-"glas Function: noun 1 : a convex lens for converging the sun's rays 2 plural : glasses to protect the eyes from the sun Pronunciation Symbols Brown sunglasses Sunglasses are a visual aid, variously termed spectacles or glasses, which feature lenses that are coloured or darkened to prevent strong light from reaching the eyes. Many people find direct sunlight too bright to be comfortable, especially when reading from paper in direct sunlight. In outdoor activities like skiing and flying, the eye can receive more light than usual. It has been recommended to wear these kind of glasses whenever outside to protect the eyes from ultraviolet radiation, which can lead to the development of a cataract. Sunglasses have also been associated with celebrities and film actors primarily due to the desire to mask identity, but in part due to the lighting involved in production being typically stronger than natural light and uncomfortable to the naked eye. Since the 1950s sunglasses have been popular as a fashion statement, especially on the beach. - 1 Uses
